Looking forward to your thoughts. In my opinion it’s very close to being the best MMORPG out there from a soloist’s perspective and it’s very good for duos, which few MMOs are. The group game barely exists any more below current expansion level and there are things happening there that make that a very problematic entry point right now, as I just posted.
EQ2 is also a famously difficult game to start afresh in, though, largely because of the perceived lack of direction. Many have tried and many have bounced. It actually suits players with a sandbox approach a lot better than those used to theme parks, even though it is technically the latter. I would strongly advise doing as much out-of-game research as you feel necessary. Trying to muddle along on in-game information in a fifteen-year old game, where countless systems have been overwritten and overwritten again is a recipe for frustration.
Daybreak have provided a guide to changes for returning players although that itself hasn’t been updated since 2018 and nore has happened since then. https://www.everquest2.com/news/eq2-are-you-returning-new-players-2018
EQ2 Library is excellent but it’s now two expansions adrift, sadly. http://eq2library.com/
